With the New Year coming up, many people look for ways to make a fresh start. Whether it be to eat healthier, save more money, or improve your career prospects, these resolutions are all good goals. But what can you do NOW in order to put your best foot forward?

Considering the current climate of the world and the job market, it’s important to consider where you want to invest your time and energy now. Here are some ideas on how to make a great start in 2022.

Start Now

It’s never too early to start preparing for what you want to achieve in the future. If you’re considering starting your own business, for example, now is the time to create a vision for what you hope to achieve. Then start to research potential markets, find suppliers, or begin designing your brand. Now is also the time to spend time on personal development by taking some courses or reading some books. Your personal issues will get in the way of pursuing your new goals and dream so anticipate that reality and prepare for it early in the game.
Investing time and energy in your future now can help you make significant gains tomorrow.

Be Consistent

One of the best things you can do to kick goals in the new year is to be consistent.
It’s important to develop a routine and stick with it – this will help you feel more grounded and on top of your day-to-day tasks. It will also help you save time and keep your energy levels high. Invest in building the habits you need to propel you forward.
If this routine is going to be effective you must design it around what you know to be true for you in everyday life. If you’re easily distracted from your goals you can design checkpoints into your routines to include small rewards for tasks that are completed. These rewards can be created from the things that tend to sidetrack you when trying to conquer your goals. A designated time to surf social media, read text messages, get some food can help you to focus on the tasks at hand knowing these releases will be obtainable at their designated times.
Nothing happens overnight, but if you’re consistently nudging towards what you want – and away from what you don’t want, you’ll get where you want to be

Set Realistic Expectations

As you start off this new year, make sure you set realistic expectations for your resolutions.
It’s important to consider what your potential is and what you want to accomplish with these resolutions. If you have a career that doesn’t present many opportunities or if you live in a rural area, then it might be difficult to achieve the goal of starting a career in digital marketing.
If your goal is too lofty, then it will only lead to disappointment and frustration. Setting realistic expectations will help keep you from feeling defeated and ready to give up before you even begin.

Be Prepared to Shift Your Perspective

In a recent poll, 66% of millennials said they feel hopeless about the future. The problem is our perspective on the future. If we can change our perspective and see a brighter tomorrow, we will have a better chance at success.
To start out with a fresh perspective, tackle your work head-on and focus on being optimistic. You can’t go wrong by staying positive and tackling each day as it comes.

Get input and feedback from those your trust to hold your vision with the same possibilities that you do. Oftentimes in life others can see our blind spots better than we can. We only know what we know. The people with who we share dreams can add their unique wisdom to that knowledge and help to create a beautiful vision for your life and for the lives of those you impact.

Be Prepared to Make Sacrifices.

Be Prepared to Make Sacrifices.

If you’re serious about making a fresh start, you will need to make sacrifices. This may mean cutting back on personal expenses, investing in your skillset, or even quitting your job. You may need to limit contact with certain people who are toxic and may be detrimental to your new journey. Sacrifices are sometimes necessary if you want to achieve something great.
For example, when the rapper Macklemore was struggling with drug addiction, he had to quit his job to get sober. But this gave him the opportunity to focus on music full-time—which ended up being a major career goal of his.

My greatest life breakthroughs came as a result of breakdowns in other areas. These breakdowns forced me to rethink my focus, time, energy, and connections. New ideas and creativity need space to grow. Turn off the news and other distractions that take you away from the creativity you are trying to cultivate.

It can be scary or overwhelming when you have to sacrifice something that seems important in order for your goals to be realized. But remember that sometimes these things are necessary for success.
